New Year, New Decade. How has social media evolved over the past ten years?

Things change. We all know this. As the infamous saying goes, only two things in life are certain: death and taxes. But just how much have our favourite social media platforms changed since 2010?

As 2019 draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on what has been a very productive year here at Specky and Ginge.
Twitter’s Vice President of Design & Research, Dantley Davis, recently tweeted about the new features he’s looking forward to trialling in 2020. Amongst the new features being explored next year is not allowing users to mention you without your permission and being able to remove your mention from tweets.

The new, anti-phishing element that has been installed by Instagram will now let you see all official emails which Instagram has sent to you in-app.
Over 12 years ago, Chris Messing, founded the immortal ‘Hashtag’ that inadvertently led to it becoming the staple of social media marketing campaigns.

Firstly, strategically placed in tweets, this type of metadata tag is now widely used across all social media platforms, particularly Instagram. However, if you get too #hashtagging happy placing too many in your post/tweet, your precious content could be rendered useless due to it’s unintended ‘spammy’ look! So, why use hashtags?
We all remember the phrase that was drilled into our little heads as children: ‘Don’t talk to strangers’, but what about as adults and young adults in today’s online social media playground?

Hi, I’m Rachel the newest team member here at Specky & Ginge. I want to introduce you to a new and exciting platform that we are exploring for our growing client base.
With the most successful online platform for connecting like-minded business professionals rolling out its new features for 2019, it’s certainly a good time to talk!

LinkedIn provides the tools to amalgamate businesses on a global scale, but now things are about to get more intimate!
You've heard the saying "we only ever see one another at weddings and funerals!" Family times are to be cherished, these gorgeous moments where we are all together. These times don't happen very often and since my Dad passed away a few years ago, they seem even more special.
This ‘ever so popular’ term, rewarded in 2017, is even more prevalent in 2019! Initially, it was brought to the forefront of our minds on a hard-hitting scale by US president Donald Trump when disarming unfavourable press coverage of himself, and it doesn’t show any signs of being archived just yet.
